The third period has been the nemesis of this Rampage team all season and early in the 3rd last night, it looked like it was all happening again. Then the Rampage ripped off 3 goals in the final 5 minutes securing the 4-2 win for their second consecutive victory.
BOXSCORE
-MacLean is starting to do what he does. He gets down low and cleans up the rebounds and tips shots. Last nights goal was a thing of beauty even if it was really really close to being a high stick.
-Boedker has really impressed the last couple of nights with his playmaking and hustle. He had 2 or 3 great backchecks that really disrupted the Lake Erie offense. His goal was the jumpstart the team needed. He took the pass from MacLean just outside the zone, carried through 3 or 4 defenders, and just rifled the shot over the left shoulder of John Grahame with 9.6 seconds left in the 2nd.
-Until Boedker's goal, the offense looked as disjointed and unorganized as I have ever seen from a Rampage team. Missed passes, passes to areas where there was no teammate, pucks in skates. Just ugly hockey.
-Rampage d-men need work. Stafford didn't pick up his man on the first Monster goal and Stone made a bad decision at the Monster blue line, reminiscent of Ahnelov 2 nights before, which led to the second Monster goal after Ahnelov decided contact wouldn't be necessary along the boards.
-Climie HAS to save that second goal. To be as good as he was and almost have the effort ruined by that goal would have been a shame.
-Yonkman and Summers have been so solid on D. Summers made a fantastic play to break up a 2 on 1 in the 3rd with the team already trailing 2-1. He forced the Monster player wide and then dove to break up the pass, eventually sweeping the puck into the corner.
-I'd like to see a little more Jeff May. He's a big hitter and a physical presence out there. Something Ahnelov, Stone, and Stafford seem tentative to do.
-If Kearns is going to stick on the second line, he needs to trust himself more. He ended up playing a great 3rd period, but he had a half a dozen chances in the 1st and 2nd that he passed up a shot to make the extra pass. Bury it, Bracken.
-Penalty Kill was awesome. The Monsters had 4 opportunities on the Power Play and never really got anything set up outside of a big flurry at the end of the 1st where Climie came up huge.
Next up, the Rampage will battle the OKC Barons at the Cox Center (I will forever call it the Myriad) in OKC, Friday night. The game, as always, can be heard on The Ticket 760 or at www.ticket760.com
