The Rampage head into the final two games of the Rodeo Road Trip with a 4-3 mark and 8 out of 14 possible points earned. To reach my completely arbitrary 11 point road trip mark, they will need to capture 3 out of 4 points in the final 2 games. It will be no easy task against a decent Toronto team and a streaking Barons squad that has the Rampage's number over the last 3 games. The good news, is that the other teams in the West have slowed a bit, allowing the Rampage to remain within striking distance. The better news, is that once this trip ends, the Rampage will finish out the season playing 14 of 22 games on home ice where the team is 17-9 this season.
Today, the Ramnpage take on former Rampage forward Mike Zigomanis and the Toronto Marlies. In the only other meeting between the teams this season, the Marlies embarrassed the Rampage on home ice taking a 6-1 decision. In that game, Al Montoya and his defense had a terrible outing, and nothing the team did went the way they planned. They went 0-fer on both the Power Play and the Penalty Kill allowing 2 PP goals in two chances. The Rampage need to come out organized and ready today and take the crowd out of the game early. Get Turris and MacLean involved and rolling and get these 2 points.
Speaking of Al Montoya, congrats to him on his shutout of the LA Kings on Saturday night. Montoya made his first start for the Islanders since being acquired from the Coyotes and "slammed the door" on 35 Kings shots. Al is now 2-0 with a 1.34 GAA and a .950 Save % since joining the Islanders. In 8 NHL games, Montoya has posted a 5-1 record with a 1.83GAA and a .935 Save %. He also has posted 2 shutouts in just 5 games started. Yes, it's early, but his play so far proves any doubters of his skill to play at that level wrong. He has always had the skill. He just needed the confidence. And the Isles gave him a chance, so I think we will see more of the same for the rest of the season. I couldn't be happier for the guy and I wish him a long and successful career.
Yet another reminder that today's game will be broadcast on the Ticket760 on the radio. However, the game will not be streamed online. So, break out those transistor radios and enjoy Dan Weiss calling the game. Looking forward to the boys coming home on Saturday night. Until then, LETS GO RAMPAGE!!!
