New Feature: San Antonio Rampage "Three Stars of the Week"

This past weekend, the Rampage split a pair of home games against division rival Oklahoma City. Friday night, the OKC power play, namely Linus Omark (4 goals), was too much for the Rampage to handle as their 3rd period rally fell short, falling 5-4. The Rampage would rebound on Saturday behind rookies Vincent Trocheck’s three point night and Michael Houser’s 25 saves. The Rampage held off the Barons for a 4-2 win.

“Three Stars of the Week” for the week ending October 27th:

1st Star: Vincent Trocheck (3G-2A-5Pts  11 SOG  +3)

Trocheck scored 3 goals and added 2 assists over the weekend and now sits atop the Rampage in scoring and is tied for second in rookie scoring for the AHL. Trocheck also worked his way up to second on the team in shots on goal (26), trailing only Alex Petrovic (27), by firing 11 SOG over the two games.

2nd Star: Bobby Butler (2G-1A-3Pts  5 SOG  +2)

Butler scored his first two goals in a Rampage uniform, netting the first goals of each game over the weekend. Butler also added an assist on Trocheck’s first goal of the weekend and was a consistent presence for the first time this season.

3rd Star: Garrett Wilson(0G-4A-4Pts  2 SOG  +2)

The second year pro earned his first career AHL multi-point effort in Friday’s loss and then followed it up with his second on Saturday. Wilson’s hard work and willingness to take abuse in front of the opposing net has earned him time on the top forward line and he has produced for the Rampage early in the season,  leading the team with a +5.

Honorable Mention: Michael Houser (1-0-0  2.00  .926%)

The rookie net minder earned his second win in as many tries on Saturday night stopping 25 of 27 shots faced, ending the Rampage’s three game losing streak. Houser’s solid and unspectacular play could earn him more playing time depending on the goalie situation in Florida.

News and Notes:
  • Rampage captain Greg Rallo was finally able to score his first goal of the season on Friday night. Though Rallo has struggled to score goals, he does lead the team with five assists.
  • Colby Cohen was released from his PTO after 2 games. I would think this means either Cohen got a standard contract somewhere, or Zach Miskovic is nearing a return from his injury.
  • Defenseman Michael Caruso was injured late in the 3rd period Saturday night and needed to be helped off the ice after the final horn. He wasn’t putting any weight on his left leg. I will update his status as soon as I hear anything concrete.
  • Philippe Cornet was a healthy scratch for the second time this season on Saturday night. The French-Canadian Rampage curse continues (for now).
