The Rampage are over halfway through this most recent
homestand and have captured 7 out of a possible 10 points going 3-1-1 in five
games. With three games this weekend, the Rampage will probably need to snag
four, if not five, points out of six to keep their playoff hopes alive. With
the upcoming ten game “Rodeo Road Trip” coming up in two weeks, home points are
at a premium considering the team’s abysmal performance on the road this season
(3-14-0-2).
Last week, the Rampage played three games and went 2-1,
defeating both Utica and Milwaukee
in shootouts before losing to Rochester
3-2 on Saturday night. They have also hit their first rough patch of the
season, injury wise. Jon Matsumoto and Jed Ortmeyer missed all three games,
Jacob Markstrom left Thursday’s win over MIL after two periods with an upper
body injury, and Michael Houser and Vincent Trocheck missed Saturday’s contest
after sustaining minor injuries in a car accident on the way to the rink. The good news, all but Matsumoto should see action this weekend along with Jonathan Racine and John Lee.
San Antonio Rampage “Three Stars of the Week” for the week
ending January 19th:
1st Star: Quinton Howden (3GP 2G-1A-3pts 4 SOG -1)
Howden put together a good all around week, including a multi-point game (1-1-2) vs. Utica. He also added added a huge third period goal against Rochester. His versatility is a nice thing to have as he has played on both the top scoring line and the 4th checking line in the same week. Still playing great on the PK as well.

2nd Star: Matt Gilroy (3GP 0G-3A-3pts 4 SOG E)
Gilroy continued his impressive offense while playing solid defense as well. He has been outstanding on the power play and is logging top pairing minutes on defense.

3rd Star: Joey Crabb (3GP 2G-0A-2pts 5 SOG -1)
Crabb had two huge power play goals vs. Milwaukee and has played a good overall game the last few weeks. After a slow(ish) start, Crabb has started chipping in with regularity and has played hard.
Honorable Mention: Wade Megan (3GP 1G-1A-2Pts 7 SOG +1)
The rookie center has impressed since his callup from Cincinnati. Impressive in all three zones, Megan has suddenly found himself centering the top line with Bobby Butler and Garrett Wilson and logging heavy minutes on the PK.
