It is my own personal Christmas Eve. Oh sure, Santa Claus still gets me fired up, but nothing like when my favorite hockey team is less than 24 hours from reporting for physicals. Players will arrive this weekend and start with medical exams and physicals on Sunday morning. Then, the practices begin on Monday. All practices, with the exception of the pre-game skate the day of the exhibition game, will be at the AT&T Center and closed to the general public. On September 30th, the day the Rampage battle the Stars, the team will have a pair of practices at Northwoods from 9am-11am. Beginning with the non-dressing group at 9am, followed by the pre-game skate for those players playing Thursday night at 10:15am. I should be in attendance for at least an hour and will provide some thoughts on the practices. Come say hi if you get a chance to make it out.
Friday, the Coyotes assigned 7 players from their NHL training camp to the Rampage. Forwards Justin Bernhardt, Colin Long, and Peter MacArthur along with defensemen Matthieu Brodeur, Jeff May, and Nick Ross and Golaie Joe Fallon were all assigned to San Antonio. No real surprises here. I'm not sure any of these guys saw much pre-season game time outside of the Rookie Camp games. The Coyotes play a split squad pair of games tonight in Glendale and San Jose and I imagine another handful of players will be sent to San Antonio on Sunday. With the Rampage opening camp on Monday, they are going to want to get these guys working together pretty quickly.
Former Rampage forward Kyle Turris is doing everything in his power to make it impossible for Phoenix GM Don Maloney and Head Coach Dave Tippet to cut him. He's playing fantastic hockey in the pre-season, scoring goals, winning face-offs, and playing sound 2 way hockey. This, along with his outstanding attitude and work ethic should earn him a spot as a top 6 forward for the Coyotes.
Single game tickets are now on sale at the ATT Center box office, on www.sarampage.com, or by calling 210-444-5554 (ask for Frank, he rules) . If you haven't already, go buy them. Or tell your friends and family to go buy them. We need to show the boys just how much we are behind them this season. It's also a relatively cheap fun family night out. Especially on dollar night, which will be every Friday night this season.
Now it's off to bed. Where I will certainly have visions of "sugar pucks" dancing in my head. See you all at the rink and LET's GO RAMPAGE!!
