San Antonio Rampage "Three Stars of the Week" - Oct 27-Nov 3

The Rampage only played one game this week, a 5-3 victory over the Charlotte Checkers. The schedule gets heavier this week however as the Silver & Black will play four games in six days, beginning Tuesday in Abbotsford, BC.

1st Star: Garrett Wilson (2G-0A-2Pts  4 SOG  +1)

Wilson continued his early season success, cashing in on two goals in Saturday’s win. The first goal came on a tip in of a Jonathan Racine shot just two minutes after Charlotte took an early lead. Wilson’s second goal came in the 3rd period and held up to be the game winning goal.

2nd Star: Quinton Howden (1G-1A-2Pts  6 SOG  +2)

Howden has struggled early, but took over in the 3rd period Saturday night. His hustle and cross-ice feed led to Greg Rallo’s game-tying goal and his unmatched speed led to the shorthanded breakaway goal that all but sealed the victory giving the Rampage a late two goal lead.

3rd Star: Michael Houser (1-0-0  3.00  .889%)

The numbers don’t scream “Star of the Week” and this decision was a difficult one as players like Rallo and Trocheck also deserve some credit. But Houser, despite allowing three goals, played an incredible second period making three or four NHL caliber saves to keep the Checkers from running away with the game. His save on Justin Shugg in the 2nd period was one of the best saves I’ve seen a Rampage goalie make. Ever. He also remains undefeated for the Rampage and that’s got to count for something, right?

Honorable Mention: Alex Petrovic (0G-1A-1Pt  4 SOG  +2)
Alex is budding into an NHL defenseman right before our eyes. He played a flawless game defensively and his work on the PK led directly to Howden’s SH goal. He’s rarely out of position and makes the game look very easy. He’s also done a good job of carrying the puck through the neutral zone and getting the offense set up. Petro played probably his best defensive game of the season.

Three Stars Season Standings
1. Garrett Wilson - 2
T-2. Bobby Butler - 1
T-2. Vincent Trocheck - 1
T-2. Quinton Howden - 1
T-2. Michael Houser - 1

 News and Notes:
  • Trocheck now has multiple-point games in three straight. He has scored 3g-4a-7pts in his last 3 games.
  • Last season, the trio of Philippe Cornet, Jared Gomes, and Jack Combs put up 48g-51a-99pts in 159 games among them. This season...zero points in 19 games played and Cornet and Combs are being scratched on a regular basis.
  • Through nine games, Petrovic is still leading the team in SOG (31). He is tied for the team lead with Howden. There are eight additional Rampage players averaging more than 2 SOG/game.
  • Michael Houser remains unbeaten at the AHL level and is currently the 15th on AHL’s leader board for goalies.
