Game 1 of the 9 game rodeo road trip begins tonight in Cleveland as the Rampage will battle the Monsters in the first of a 2 game set. That Rampage entered the All Star break on a 5 game point streak and have clawed their way back up to the top of the standings after slipping in early January due to injuries and callups (and one very big deportation). They will once again be without the services of Andrew Ebbett and Mikkel Boedker as both were summoned back to Phoenix after the NHL All Star break. The latter to apparently keep Paul Bissonette's seat warm in the press box every night.
The Rampage are 2-0 vs the Monsters this season after sweeping a 2 game set here in San Antonio back in October. Matt Climie started both games against Lake Erie but Al Montoya is expected to get the start tonight. Montoya is playing well in his last 3 appearances going 3-0, including a relief win over Milwaukee, with a 1.84 GAA and a .940 Save %.
Brett MacLean, who took a puck off his foot in the ASG, will be ready to go tonight. He ended up playing minimal minutes Monday night due to his injury and missed practice Wednesday but is with the team and skating hard.
Ryan Weston missed the morning skate with a "lower body injury" and is doubtful for tonight. If he is unable to go, look for JD Watt to dress. Thanks to Dan Weiss for the info.
The road trip this season is littered with games against North Division opponents. Only 2 games, both vs OKC, will be against division teams. Unfortunately, those other 7 are all against playoff caliber teams. Lake Erie has won 8 of 10 coming into tonight, and Hamilton and Manitoba are Calder Cup contenders. It's going to be tough sledding. If the Rampage can come home at the end of this trip with 10 out of a possible 18 points, I think they are in a good position for the stretch run. Anything more than 10 is a bonus. Anything less, and it is going to be hard to keep up in the ultra-competitive West.
So tune those radios to Ticket 760 and listen to Dan Weiss call some wins. I look forward to several "How sweet it is!" calls in the coming weeks. Finally, you know it's coming...
LETS GO RAMPAGE!!!
