The new look San Antonio Rampage take on the new look Chicago Wolves tonight in the 2011-2012 season opener for both squads. Both teams come into the season with brand new NHL parent teams, the Rampage with Florida, and the Wolves now with the Vancouver Canucks. Former Rampage goaltender Matt Climie is now between the pipes for the Wolves, though it remains to be seen if he or last year's rookie standout Eddie Lack will get the start. For the Rampage, Manny Legace will get the start. The former Red Wings and Blues goalie was recently signed to a PTO to bolster depth in the system after NHL backup Scott Clemmensen had surgery on his knee.
Earlier this week, the Rampage made their final cuts, sending veteran Wacey Rabbit and young d-man Adam Comrie to ECHL Cincinnati. The Rampage roster now sits at 24, with 13 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 3 goalies. Included is NHL veteran Steven Reinprecht who many, me included, thought would never dress a game in the AHL. It may still be temporary, as a buyout, a loan to a team in Europe or re-entry waivers are always a possibility.
I would love to forecast possible lines, but I just know so little about the players at this point that I would risk looking like a giant idiot if I were to do so. I think we will see Eric Selleck as the rotating healthy scratch depending on the grit level of the opponent. Who he rotates with, is anybody's guess. I'm sure the coaches know exactly what the plan is, but with no access to practice and very little information coming from the team, I can't even begin to speculate. As far as the blue line, again, I have no idea what the plan is. I am learning the roster and players talents along with everyone else.
I need a win tonight. I am missing two very important things in my life for this. My DVR will be busy with UM football and Tigers baseball, so anything less than a win is unacceptable. I have a good feeling about tonight though. I think the crowd will be electric and the team will respond giving us all what we've been waiting for...a Rampage victory. Until tonight, enjoy your Saturday, and I will see you at the rink. (I'll be the one in the bar living and dying by every Verlander pitch) LETS GO RAMPAGE!!
