The Rampage open up a 4 game homestand tonight as they welcome the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Griffins, AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, are an explosive offensive team that plays little to no defense and has ECHL level goaltending. If there was ever a night for the Rampage to break out of their offensive funk at home, tonight is it. They will need to be disciplined, however. Grand Rapids comes in with the league's 5th best power play converting on 25% of their chances with the extra man.
Another big key for the Rampage, after staying out of the box, will be "weathering the storm" for the first two periods. Much like the Chicago Wolves, the Griffins are solid for the first two periods but collapse in the 3rd. The Griffins have allowed 11 of their 26 goals allowed in the final frame while scoring just 5 goals. If the Rampage can keep the Griffins off the board early, they can win this one.
This is a game the Rampage need to win after their disastrous one point, six game road trip. The other teams in the South are just too good and they can't let them get too far in front by losing winnable games at home.
News and Notes
- Andre Deveaux will sit out tonight's game serving his second suspension of the season. He was involved with some shenanigans after the final horn on Sunday vs. Rockford.
- All Rampage players are practicing at full speed. Caruso is ready to go this weekend and Quinton Howden and James Wright, who both got nicked up on the road trip, are back to full strength.
- The Barons have signed former first overall pick Taylor Hall to an AHL deal. Hall was recovering from a shoulder injury and is now officially a Baron. Expect to see him in the lineup Sunday.
PSA: Remember, start times for Friday nights are now 7:30pm. Now you can stop at Whataburger before you get to the game and save yourself about $43.50.
Personal sidenote: My awesome and hilarious kids will be singing "God Bless America" during the first intermission with their school choir. Please hold off on your dollar beers long enough to show them so love.
As always, see you at the rink and LETS GO RAMPAGE!
